The Island of Hawai'i is known as the Healing Island...
Our mountains, Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea are the largest land mass on planet Earth, rising to over 14,000 feet above the current sea level from their base, many thousands of feet below the Pacific Ocean... The peaks can be snow capped in the winter, and Mauna Kea is home to the largest collection of astronomical observatories on the planet... So, if you like star gazing, you are in for a treat... Even here at sea level, the sun, moon, planets, stars and meteor showers are especially clear, because our island is so far from any city lights, and our air is used as the standard reference worldwide as trade winds bring us the cleanest air to be found anywhere... Though the Moku (island) of Hawai'i is larger (and more of an island) than Rhode Island, our population is less than 200,000, so you will find that most of us still have open hearts and time to be courteous and friendly, even to our visitors... |
